E-Life Study #2

Thank you for completing the first study. As you continue on you will receive still greater profit as you increase in your knowledge of God’s Word.

In Study One, you learned that:

  • Jesus Christ is God and the Creator of all things.
  • God has revealed to men His holy commandments.
  • All men are sinners because they have transgressed God’s Law.
  • Men love darkness rather than light.
  • The consequence of sin is death, judgment, and eternal damnation.

Although the whole Bible is the Word of God, the Gospel according to John and the Epistle to the Romans were given specifically to show how you could receive eternal life. Once again, this study is confined to these two Books. Any reference to other parts of the Bible will be written out for you.

From your copy of “John & Romans” look up and read the scripture passages referenced, and answer the questions in your own words. (You may also hold your mouse cursor over any scripture reference to “pop up” and view the passage.)

1. For what reason did Jesus Christ come into the world? (John 12:47)

2. List the seven-fold description of Jesus Christ given in the Gospel according to John:

  1. I am the (John 6:35)
  2. I am the (John 8:12)
  3. I am the (John 10:9)
  4. I am the (John 10:11)
  5. I am the (John 11:25)
  6. I am the (John 14:6)
  7. I am the (John 15:5)
  8. (As a point of interest, “I AM” is the Name by which God revealed Himself to Moses in Exodus 3:14. It literally means “the eternal, self-existent One Who reveals Himself.” See: John 8:58.)

3. What did John the Baptist call Jesus Christ? (John 1:29)

In the Old Testament times, a lamb without spot or blemish was killed and sacrificed as an innocent substitute to make atonement for the sins of the people. This Passover lamb was a symbol and a foreshadowing of Jesus Christ, Who was later to come into the world.

4. During His trial before Pilate, what fault was found in Jesus Christ? (John 19:4)

5. In what manner was the Lord Jesus Christ put to death? (John 19:16-18)

6. What was unique about the death of Jesus Christ at the hands of His Roman executioners? (John 10:17-18)

7. What was the motive that led Jesus Christ to die in our place? (John 15:13)

8. How did God commend (prove, demonstrate) His love for us? (Romans 5:8)

9. For what kind of person did Christ die? (Romans 5:8)

10. Did Jesus Christ die for you?

11. Why do you say this?

12. Through His death on the cross, what did Christ do with our sins? (John 1:29)

13. What final words did Jesus cry from the cross that signaled His complete and perfect payment for the sin of the world? (John 19:30)

14. What was the imperative (“must”) for Jesus Christ? (John 3:14)

15. What other imperative did the scriptures predict? (John 20:9)

16. What proof did the disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ have that He rose from the dead? (John 21:14)

17. In what way did the skeptical Thomas prove to himself that Jesus has risen bodily from the dead? (John 20:24-29)

I Corinthians 15:1-4 — “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved … how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”

18. According to I Corinthians 15:1-4 (above), what is the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

19. What will the Gospel do for you? (Romans 1:16)

20. Why was Jesus delivered unto the death of the cross? (Romans 4:25)

21. Why was Jesus raised from the dead? (Romans 4:25)

The word justified means “just-if-I’d never sinned.”

22. Does the fact that Christ died and rose again mean automatic salvation for everyone? (John 8:24)

23. What is the one thing God asks you to do in order to receive everlasting life? (John 6:47)

24. What other verb used in John 1:12 means the same thing as “believe?”

25. When one hears the Gospel and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ, what is the great change that takes place? (John 5:24)

26. What question do people who seek to earn or merit salvation ask, rather than depending completely upon the death and resurrection of Christ? (John 6:28)

27. How does Jesus answer these people? (John 6:29).

28. If you receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, will you REALLY become a child of God? (John 1:12)

29. If you reject Christ and His Word, what will happen to you in the last day? (John 12:48)

30. What is the penalty for the sin of unbelief? (John 8:24)

31. Is there any other way to receive eternal life other than through the Lord Jesus Christ? (John 14:6)

32. Do you have questions or comments after completing this study?

Thank you for completing this second study. We hope it was informative and helpful to you. It has taken the subject of eternal life a step further by focusing on the Lord Jesus Christ, Who bridged the infinite divide between sinful man and a holy God with His outstretched arms on the cross. The SAVIOUR paid your great debt of sin by becoming the sin-bearer. He took your place, and purchased salvation through the shedding of His blood. I Peter 3:8 explains:

“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit.”

This is indeed good news! Great news, in fact! The third study will introduce you to the great SALVATION that is offered freely to all through the Lord Jesus Christ. You may link to the third study at any time. Once again, we suggest you first send your completed study to us for review by clicking on the SEND button below. While you wait for our response, read John chapters 4-6 and Romans chapters 4-6. We will get back to you very soon.

Please provide the following basic information to receive a review of your second study. May God bless you.
